2018
Das Thema des Vienna Humanities Festivals 2018 war „Macht & Ohnmacht“. Es ging um die Krise der Demokratie, um das Erstarken fundamentalistischer und radikaler Kräfte und die Suche nach Auswegen. Im Rahmen des Gedenk- und Erinnerungsjahres 2018 widmete das Festival auch einen Programmschwerpunkt der hundertjährigen Geschichte der Republik Österreich.
The theme of the Vienna Humanities Festival 2018 was “Power and Powerlessness”. We addressed the current crisis of democracy, interrogated the rise of fundamentalist and radical forces, and searched for possible alternatives. In the context of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Republic of Austria, there was also a focus on its history.

Das Generalthema des zweiten Vienna Humanities Festivals im Jahr 2017 war „Revolution!“. Der inhaltliche Bogen spannte sich von Russland 1917 über die 68er-Bewegung und das Wendejahr 1989 bis hin zu den damals aktuellen Umwälzungen in den arabischen Ländern und in der Ukraine. Es ging aber auch um die industrielle Revolution im 19. Jahrhundert, die ästhetische Revolution der Moderne und die digitale Revolution mit ihren weitreichenden gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen.
The theme of the second Vienna Humanities Festival (2017) was “Revolution!”. The talks covered a wide swath, from Russia in 1917 to the events of 1968 and from the transformations of 1989 to the upheavals in the Arab World and Ukraine. We also addressed the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century, the Aesthetic Revolution of Modernism and the Digital Revolution with the vast changes it brings to our current world.

Das erste Vienna Humanities Festival im Jahr 2016 beschäftigte sich mit dem Thema „Andernorts“. Es fand seinen Ausgangspunkt in der damals aktuellen Flüchtlingskrise, ging aber weit über das Thema hinaus, um die Bewegung von Menschen, Dingen und Ideen als ein Fundament der Kulturgeschichte nachvollziehbar zu machen.
The first Vienna Humanities Festival, held in 2016, took up the theme the theme "Out of Place." The topic orginiated with the then-urgent refugee crisis, but went far beyond it to address the movement of peoples, things, and ideas as a foundational aspect of cultural history.
